Keep Your Teeth Healthy
If you’re anything like the average person, your teeth are probably somewhat sensitive to extreme temperatures. Foods that are on the extreme ends of the hot and cold scale are naturally harder for people to eat, however, for some people even normal food temperature is too much for their teeth to bare. Below, we have listed a few things every person can do in order to make sure that they are not contributing to tooth sensitivity.
- Change Brushing Method: One of the first things you should do if you are suffering from excessive tooth sensitivity is to look at the way you are brushing your tooth and the toothbrush you are using. If you are using a rigid tooth brush and are brushing too hard, you could be causing your own sensitivity issues by scraping away the protective enamel of your teeth. We recommend switching to a toothbrush with soft bristles and brushing more gently.
- Sensitive Teeth Toothpaste: Another great way to reduce the sensitivity of your teeth is to use a toothpaste specifically designed for people with sensitive teeth. There are several brands of sensitive specific toothpaste on the market that contains an active ingredient called potassium nitrate. This ingredient helps to block the tiny spaces in the dentin of a person’s teeth, greatly reducing the sensitivity level of the teeth. While these toothpastes do not always work for every person, most experts agree that it is one of the first steps people should take in order to treat tooth sensitivity.
- Avoid Acid: If your teeth are overly sensitive, avoid food and drinks that are high in acids such as citrus fruits, red wine, and fruit juices. Acidic foods work to eat away at the enamel of the teeth, exposing the sensitive underlayer. Avoiding these substances can go a long way in treating tooth sensitivity.
