The Importance of Dentures

It is undeniable that life is far harder without teeth, and dentures have enabled countless people to enjoy greater confidence and a higher quality of life. Whether dentures help our patients to continue eating their favorite foods, fill in a gap in existing teeth, rebuild their damaged self-esteem, or more, we are happy to offer a solution.

How Can Dentures Help?

If you have missing teeth, dentures can be a life-changing solution that restores your oral health, enhances your appearance, and boosts your self-confidence. Here are a few of the many benefits of high-quality dentures from Salvatore Dental:

Improved Oral Function

Dentures restore the functionality of your mouth, allowing you to chew, bite, and speak with ease. With a well-fitted set of dentures, you can enjoy your favorite foods, engage in conversations without hesitation, and regain control of your oral function.

Enhanced Aesthetics

Dentures can transform your smile, filling in gaps, and restoring the natural contours of your face. Our skilled denturists will work closely with you to create custom dentures that match your unique facial structure and provide a natural-looking, radiant smile.

Preservation Of Oral Health

Missing teeth can lead to a host of oral health issues, including shifting of surrounding teeth, bone loss, and an increased risk of decay and gum disease. Dentures help maintain the alignment of your remaining teeth, support jawbone structure, and prevent further oral health complications.

Convenience And Comfort

Using advanced materials and technology, our dentist will precisely craft your dentures to ensure a secure and comfortable fit. Your new dentures will feel natural and lightweight, allowing you to wear them with ease and confidence.

Dentures

What are dentures?

Dentures are a way to replace missing teeth. They are essentially a piece of acrylic with teeth attached and can be placed on the top or bottom of your mouth. On the top, we can actually get a bit of suction, akin to a suction cup with teeth attached. They are a great alternative for some patients.

What type of dental professional would I see about getting dentures?

Typically, a general dentist would provide dentures. Here at Salvatore Dental, we use scanning and 3D printing to fabricate dentures quickly, ensuring they look good and fit well.

When would a dentist recommend getting dentures?

Dentists usually recommend getting dentures when the teeth are not salvageable due to gum disease or big cavities. When your teeth become more of a liability than an asset, it's time to consider dentures.

What types of dentures are there?

There are full dentures, which replace all missing teeth, and partial dentures, which are used when some teeth are stable and healthy, and others need replacement. We also offer implant dentures that snap on and stay in really well.

How are dentures made and what materials are used?

The traditional approach to making dentures uses acrylic, which is similar to plastic. However, we now also use 3D printing technology. Partial dentures may have some metal in them to grab onto the teeth. Implant dentures are made out of a stronger material called zirconia.

Is the process of getting dentures painful?

The level of discomfort can vary depending on where you are in the process. Some discomfort can come from the surgery involved in immediate dentures. However, having a denture placed immediately after tooth extraction can help protect the area and assist in healing.

What anesthesia options will be available during the denture procedure?

We offer a range of options, from local anesthesia to full sedation with an anesthesiologist. We understand that dental procedures can cause anxiety, so we aim to make our patients as comfortable as possible.

What should I expect my dentures to look and feel like?

Ideally, we want your dentures to resemble your natural teeth as closely as possible. The feel of the dentures can vary depending on the option chosen. Implant dentures that have no roof of the mouth are easier to get used to and feel more natural.

What is the best way to clean and care for dentures?

For removable dentures, we recommend daily cleaning with a toothbrush and warm water. We discourage the use of toothpaste as it can wear down the dentures over time. For fixed implant dentures, normal brushing and the use of a water pick is sufficient.

Will having dentures affect my ability to eat and drink regularly?

The type of denture chosen can affect eating and drinking. Full dentures can reduce biting power, making it harder to chew certain foods. However, implant dentures that are very stable allow you to eat anything.

What special care should I take for my mouth and gums after getting dentures?

For removable dentures, it's important to clean both the dentures and your mouth each night. Brush your remaining teeth and use mouthwash to keep everything clean and healthy. If you have fixed implant dentures, the care required is less, as the gums and tissues tend to be happier.

How long will dentures last?

The lifespan of dentures depends on the type. Full acrylic dentures typically last between five to fifteen years. Implant dentures, if taken care of, can last indefinitely.

What if my dentures need restoration, replacement, or repair?

We have two ways to repair dentures. One is in-house, where we can take care of broken dentures or teeth. We also have a local lab that offers excellent overnight service. So if you have any problems with your dentures, we encourage you to come in, and we can fix them.

How long will it take for my mouth to heal and get used to dentures?

The adjustment period depends on the individual situation. It's usually easier if only one or two teeth have been removed. However, if all teeth are removed and immediate dentures are placed, the healing period could be longer.

What are the costs of dentures, and will my insurance help pay for them?

Dental insurance often helps with the cost of dentures, but it depends on the individual case and insurance policy. We encourage patients to come in for a free consultation to discuss all aspects of getting dentures, including insurance questions.
